East Collective · folk band · since 2011
A folk band for harvest festivals and outdoor events - an energetic set that works on a big stage and in open space.
Propabanda has been playing harvest festivals and outdoor events for years - the natural habitat for a live horn section and energetic folk that carries across open space.
Our Balkan and Gypsy repertoire in modern arrangements connects with both the older and younger crowds typical of harvest festivals and municipal fairs.
Harvest festivals are usually organised by a municipality, community centre or village council, with a set schedule - a ceremonial part, performances by local folk groups, and a dance party in the evening. Our set fits naturally into that evening, danceable part of the programme, though it also works just as well as an energetic opener right after the official ceremony.
Folk music and Balkan folk share a common denominator - a horn-section rhythm that carries across a large, open space and naturally invites dancing, without needing to explain to the crowd what the music is about. That’s why a folk band with a live horn section works better at a harvest festival than more than one DJ we know.
Our repertoire is original arrangements of Balkan and Gypsy folk, not classic disco polo or biesiadna party music - a deliberate choice for organisers looking for something different from a standard wedding-and-fair band.
Since 2011 we’ve played dozens of outdoor shows across Poland - including Warsaw, Katowice, Bielsko-Biała and Inowrocław.
