Balkan Music - Where Its Energy Comes From

Pięcioosobowa kapela folkowa. Muzyka bałkańska i cygańska w nowoczesnych aranżacjach - energetyczny folk, przy którym nie da się usiedzieć.

There is a moment at every Balkan concert: the brass section comes in, the tempo jumps, and the audience - even the people who “only stopped for a minute” - starts dancing. That is no accident. Balkan music is built to sweep people up.

Brass you feel in your chest

The heart of the Balkan sound is the brass - trumpet and saxophone playing in unison or chasing each other in dialogues. It is a sound that carries across a whole square and needs no explanation: loud, bright, physical. Add an accordion and a rhythm section and you have a dance machine.

Rhythms that will not let you stand still

The Balkans are famous for odd meters and galloping tempos. The Western ear cannot always count them - but the legs understand them instantly. It is precisely this contrast between a “strange” rhythm and immediate danceability that makes Balkan folk sound exotic and familiar at the same time.

Melodies with a Slavic soul

Balkan themes are short, vivid and stick in your memory after a single listen. Underneath the layer of madness hides Slavic melancholy - this is music that can laugh and long in one song. That is why it works at a wedding and at a world music festival alike.

The Balkans, Polish style

Propabanda deliberately picks the tastiest morsels from the Balkan cauldron - from Bubamara to Mesecina - and serves them in its own modern arrangements with a hefty dose of improvisation. Read more about our influences in the piece on Balkan and Gypsy folk, and listen in the music and video section.
