A Band for City Days - How to Build a Stage Programme That Fills the Square

Pięcioosobowa kapela folkowa. Muzyka bałkańska i cygańska w nowoczesnych aranżacjach - energetyczny folk, przy którym nie da się usiedzieć.

City days follow one simple rule: the audience votes with its feet. If the stage “sits down” for an hour after the preschoolers’ dance show, the square empties - and the evening headliner plays to a half-empty space. A well-built programme keeps the energy up all day.

An energy curve, not a list of attractions

The most common mistake is programming like a list: whatever we have, we put in order. It is better to think of an energy curve - after the children’s blocks and local presentations, the crowd needs a clear signal that “the evening begins”: a band that plays for dancing and gathers people at the stage before the headliner walks on.

The slot before the headliner is the key

The set directly before the star of the evening is often treated as filler. That is a mistake - this is when the turnout of the finale is decided. A high-energy folk band in that slot does two things at once: it keeps the families who came in the afternoon, and it draws in the evening audience who “heard from a distance that something was happening”.

What the stage needs from the organiser

  • a realistic schedule with buffers for changeovers,
  • a sound system matching the performers’ riders,
  • one decision-maker at the stage all day,
  • performers’ promo materials in advance - for posters and the town’s media.

Proven on hundreds of open-air stages

Propabanda has played several hundred concerts - from neighbourhood fetes to large festival stages - and knows how to warm up a square before the headliner or close the night itself. We also write about choosing a band for this kind of event in a band for harvest festivals and city days, and you will find the offer for local governments on the city days and community centres page.
